Revelation 19 - The Names of Jesus

The Names of Jesus

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

John looked into heaven in his vision. He was seeing future events. Behold a white horse; and he that sat on it was called Faithful and True. From the world's movies we might think of a cowboy hero the Lone Ranger; a law abiding person seeking justice, enforcing the law. There is one much greater then this fictional character coming and he has never broken the law, he is the perfect Son of God. He that sat upon the white horse was Faithful and True. Note that the names are actually names, capitalized. As God the Son, He is faithful and he keeps his promises. He came from the Father, with the character of His Father, God.

He is Faithful

Deu 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

2 Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

He is True

John 3:33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Rev 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

The first mention of eyes was in Genesis:

Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Knowing good from evil is judgment.

There is only one man without sin who is judge of all: Jesus Christ, son of man and Son of God. He has been given all judgment.

Eyes as a flame of fire represents fiery judgment, from the Judge, Jesus Christ.

Prov 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
Prov 5:22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Mat 3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

and on his head were many crowns

He had all authority as king of Kings and the Son of God.

Rev 4:10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

The twenty four elders were those respected by men as leaders. They throughtheir crowns at the feet of Jesus, in worship. What honor and glory do we have? It is to be surrendered to Jesus, who is Master of all.

Mat 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

John 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
John 5:27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Jesus came the first time as a humble servent, the Lamb of God who took upon himself the sins of the world. He shall return again as triumpant king and judge and ruler of all.

and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

No man can know God, nor His Son, unless it be revealed to them by the Spirit of God through the Word of God. Names are revealed to us in time. Looking back we see a name:

Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Mat 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Mat 27:11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

John 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
John 19:20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
John 19:21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
John 19:22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

Jesus was accused of being the king of the Jews and this was used as the reason to execute him. They called it blaspheme. We know that he was true and faithful and just. Jesus has many names revealed in the Bible and yet there are more we shall learn of Him, for His glory is without end.
