Isaiah 28 - Scornful Men

Scornful Men

Isa 28:14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

The leaders of Israel, the prophets and priests, drunk with wine, affluence and power; they mock the truth. They do not want to hear the real prophet Isaiah, speak to them; precept upon precept, line upon line. What does a witness do with those who say they are the leaders and the spiritual voice of God, but reject the word of God spoken to them? Isaiah gives them a stern warning from God.

Isa 28:15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

They trust in their lies and their arrogance and have made a covenant with the devil. The arrogant, the arguers, the strife makers, the atheists and openly sinful defiant people. They have joined with the throngs of demons, but they will not save them. The enemy nation will overflow them and pass through them, like the death angel in Egypt. Because of their hardened hearts, they will not be protected by God. Give them the word, and then warn them, but do not stay with them, for they mock and disobey God's truth. Their destruction is on the way, unless they repent, for they have been warned.

Mat 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Isaiah 28- Precept upon precept

Precept upon precept

Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

A new believer must first be given the sincere milk of the word, the basic truths of salvation. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and is risen again, by faith we are saved by grace. Those who want to grow must learn more, for the Bible is God's word and promises. Through it we learn to live as his adopted son, being prepared for eternal life and our work on this earth.

1 Cor 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
1 Cor 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

We grow from being a babe by learning God's word.

Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

We learn precept by precept. command by command, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

This is a great truth to a believer wishing to grow as a disciple, but it was said by the drunken prophets and leaders, as a mocking nursery rhymn. They were too proud, too self righteous, as many today, they mocked the precepts and truths of scripture. They had hooked up with a demonic spirit promising them higher things and more indulgences.

1 Cor 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
1 Cor 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1 Cor 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
1 Cor 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1 Cor 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

1 Cor 14:21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
1 Cor 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
1 Cor 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
1 Cor 14:24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

Seek not to speak with no understanding, but to be understood.

Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

The rest, is in knowing God's truth in your heart; the word of God. The Living Word, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit and rest.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

2 Chr 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

These backsliders would not turn again to the LORD. They mocked him, some just are caught up in sin and do not know how to get free. Others are not sure that they can complete the course.

Gal 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?
Gal 5:8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
Gal 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
Gal 5:10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.

Isa 28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

As they mocked the way of truth, they continued to fall away, and are taken captive.

2 Tim 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
2 Tim 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2 Tim 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

2 Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We continue in the word, precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; if this is a burden to you, you probably are backslidden. Take heed and return to your place in Christ.

As a disciple and witness we will meet mockers, some were once believers. Continue in the word, discern their spirit, for some are sheep, backslidden who need to be returned. If we are not studying the word, precept by precept, line upon line, we have no fuel or power to reach them. Being a disciple, we grow each day in his likeness and in his anointing and His presence draws others to Him.

Isaiah 28 - Hear the LORD

Hear the LORD

Isa 28:5 In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,

In the midst of the drunkards, there is a residue or a remnant that seeks the LORD. In the midst of the enemy hoard, the people of God trust in the LORD. He is their crown of glory and for a diadem of beauty. We can praise the LORD in difficult times, he is still God and by faith we shall be filled with peace.

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isa 28:6 And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.

The LORD will give the spirit of judgment and wisdom to the governors to turn the battle at the gate, the entrance to the city. But will they heed the LORD? For they too are drunk and in sin.

Psa 10:4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
Psa 10:5 His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
Psa 10:6 He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.
Psa 10:7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
Psa 10:8 He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.
Psa 10:9 He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.
Psa 10:10 He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
Psa 10:11 He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

Isa 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

The leaders, the spiritual leaders, the preists and the prophets have been influenced by the lifestyle of the nation. They err in their ways because of strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2 Tim 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Isa 28:8 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

Over indulgent, self centered, drunken with wine and pleasures, even in the spiritual leaders. Lusting for wealth and things and neglecting to see with God's eyes. They are rotten fruit, ripe for judgment. Do we want revival? We also need to repent and pray, for the people are turning from the LORD, turning from truth, judgment and holiness. God have mercy.

Isaiah 28 - Woe to the Drunkards

Woe to the Drunkards

Isa 28:1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

Ephraim was a tribe in the Kingdom of Israel. The Southern Kingdom of Judah had separated with it's own king. What was God saying to Ephraim? He was addressing the sins of the people. It was a nation of drunks, overcome with wine.

Prov 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Alcohol can change a gentle person into a red eyed devil. The lips speak words of a devil and the wicked acts towards others, especially family, destroys the bond of love and peace. A Christian should not be drunk with wine, for it allows other spirits to be in control. We are to allow God to be in control.

Eph 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Isa 28:2 Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.

The Assyrians would invade the land. This will put a stop to the drunken lifestyle. It will put a stop to the nation, for they shall be taken captive.

Isa 8:7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:

Isa 28:3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim: Like any other sin, drunkenness is connected to pride, so much so that Isaiah likens the drunkards of Ephraim to a crown of pride. Much of the self-hatred and self-despising drunkards feel is rooted in too much focus upon one's self, which is the essence of pride. These who are self centered will be trampled under feet by the Assyrian invaders.

Isa 28:4 And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.

This beautiful place of Ephraim which is at the northern most part of Israel, shall be as a fading flower and the early fruit, the first ripened figs, shall be eaten up. The Assyrians will carry them into captivity.

Woe to a nation of indulgence, full of pride, alcohol and drugs in a prosperous land. Beware for God will allow the invading armies to take away your easy life and to put you in captivity. Wake up people of God.

Jacob's Deception

Jacob's Deception

Gen 27:1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.
Gen 27:2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:

Isaac was old and could not see. This may have been true spiritually as well, for he favored Esau, who had already given his birthright to Jacob.

Gen 25:30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
Gen 25:31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.
Gen 25:32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
Gen 25:33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Esau was a rugged, hairy man and a hunter. He was like his father Isaac in that he liked to eat his food, maybe too much. Jacob was a conniver, a trickster, and he manipulated the birthright from Esau.

Gen 27:3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; Gen 27:4 And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.

He was wanting his venison; then he planned to give the birthright blessing to Esau. Was this family a close loving family? I don't think so. Isaac loved Esau and Rebecca favored Jacob. Had they not heard from God as Rebecca did at the birth of the two son's?

Gen 25:22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD.
Gen 25:23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

The LORD had promised the blessing to be through Jacob.

Gen 27:5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.
Gen 27:6 And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
Gen 27:7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.
Gen 27:8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
Gen 27:9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
Gen 27:10 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.

Rebecca was a schemer like her son. Perhaps he learned this behavior from Rebecca? Isaac could not tell the difference in taste between a goat and venison. Maybe they used a lot of garlic?

Gen 27:11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
Gen 27:12 My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
Gen 27:13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.

Do what I say and let the curse be upon me if we fail.

We should not do things by craftiness. The promise was given to Jacob by the LORD, he doesn't need clever people to do things by deceit. Does the end justify the means? Can we not trust God and obey him and leave the results to him? Do we trust his promises? Or do we manipulate things to get what we want. The Holy Spirit better be in control of the church and in oue lives, or we have a form of godliness, but it is manipulation of people and plans for a persons own desires.

Gen 27:14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.

Rebekah cooked meat, to deceive her husband Isaac and Jacob had earlier cooked pottage to deceive his brother. Eating together is a form of fellowship. Jesus wants to eat with us.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

There are times when we need to keep our eyes open atthe dinner table. There may be a sinister motive behind the offer of food or other favors. A woman who was saved from the life of a prostitute said that she never trusted someone with a free meal, for there was a price to pay for any favor. There is no free lunch. Let's take this thought into the scriptures.

2 Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

Prov 23:1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
Prov 23:2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
Prov 23:3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

Gen 27:15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:

Rebecca put Esau's best clothes on Jacob.

Gen 27:16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:

Esau must truly have been hairy, if he resemble goat hair. The newly killed goat's skins with hair were wrapped around Jacobs hands and neck, to fool Isaac when he touched him. I can picture the blood of the goat on the inside of the fur pieces, applied to Jacob's flesh.

Animal sacrifices only worked until the next sin. Jesus died for all of our sins.

Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Gen 27:17 And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

Rebecca was very much involved in this deception. She had said, upon me be thy curse; an idle statement. When Jesus was crucified the Jews spoke similar words.

Mat 27:24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
Mat 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

The sin nature is in all mankind, only Jesus was without sin.

Gen 27:18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?
Gen 27:19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
Gen 27:20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.
Gen 27:21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
Gen 27:22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
Gen 27:23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
Gen 27:24 And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.

Jacob had a chance to tell the truth, but he continued his deception. Will a liar tell us the truth? Can you trust them?

I do think we can assume that Jacob knew that he was supposed to end up with the birthright eventually. I'm sure his mother told him what the Lord had told her. What this event shows us is that Jacob was not willing to wait on the Lord. He would manipulate events to get his way.

Gen 27:25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.
Gen 27:26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
Gen 27:27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
Gen 27:28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
Gen 27:29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

Jacob received the birthright blessings. He had the promise of the fatness of the earth, authority over people and nations and over his brothers. A promise of curses returned to those who curse him, and blessings for those who bless him and through him all nations would be blessed by Jesus.

Let's look at this word Jacob. It means heel holder or supplanter. To supplant is to take the place of (another), as through force, scheming, strategy, or the like. It is close to the word guile; treacherous cunning; skillful deceit.

Psa 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

1 Th 2:3 For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
1 Th 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

1 Pet 2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
1 Pet 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
1 Pet 2:3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
1 Pet 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
1 Pet 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

1 Pet 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
1 Pet 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
1 Pet 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
1 Pet 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 Pet 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Rev 14:5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

Trumpet Harvest - Isaiah 27

Trumpet Harvest

Isa 27:12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.

In that day, there shall be a gathering; the LORD shall beat off, thresh, the crop, it is harvest time. The grain is separated from the chaff, from Iraq and Egypt a people will be gathered, one by one; hear ye children of Israel.

John the Baptist introduced Jesus as the one to come.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Mat 3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Isa 27:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

At the trumpet of the Lord, many will be gathered from all nations unto the Lord.

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Jesus comes to the world and people will either cry out in fear and will be removed by death or they will come in faith to the King of Kings. There will be no unbelievers at his return. There will be a harvest and a separation. We had better warn all, and we ourselves draw closer to our Lord, for he is coming back soon.
