Mark - Herod's Birthday Party

Herod's Birthday Party

Mark 6:21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

A feast in honor of Herods birthday. What could they give the king?

Mark 6:22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

Apparently, Herod had eyes for his step daughter, so much so that he would give her whatever she wanted. As a lustful man, perhaps he thought she would be his birthday present?

Mark 6:23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

Foolishly in his lust he swore to her up to half of his kingdom. Be careful not to make oaths and promises for God hears these and will hold you to them. The kings name and law made his word law, it could not be broken.

Mark 6:24 And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

Like mother, so was the daughter, The mothers anger was not yet appeased. She asked for vengeance. God would seek his righteous vengence on her, in time.

Mark 6:25 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

On a charger, a dish or platter.

Mark 6:26 And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

He had to keep his word. Do not say things in haste or to please others around you. Be careful what comes from your mouth.

James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
James 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Mark 6:27 And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
Mark 6:28 And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

Do we cut off the head of someone who speaks truth to us? Many in our nation are cutting off their own heads in denying God, his word and His Son.

2 Tim 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
2 Tim 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
2 Tim 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

Mark 6:29 And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

Jesus would give this eulogy.

Mat 11:10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Mat 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

John had not yet entered the kingdom of heaven. Jesus would make the way through his own blood, death and resurrection.

Mark - Herod and John the Baptist

Herod and John the Baptist

Mark 6:14 And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him.

Herod feared John the Baptist and when he heard of the mighty works of Jesus, he thought he was John, risen from the dead. John had pointed his followers to Jesus, saying:

John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
John 3:31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

Mark 6:15 Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
Mark 6:16 But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

Herod had done this horrible thing. The story is explained:

Mark 6:17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.
Mark 6:18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

John who was a prophet, spoke boldly the words that God gave to him. A true prophet must speak what God tells them to say. A false prophet may speak to please men and to be popular. Herod had taken his brother's wife for his own. The brother was not dead, this was a power move of Herodias, his wife.

Mark 6:19 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

Herodias, a Jezebel type of woman, wickedly desired to kill righteous John, Herod forbid it, so she would find another way later, through Herod's lust for pleasure. How many have fallen by satan's temptation to lust? How many follow a wife or husband above God?

Mark 6:20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. Herod seemed to be a follower of John, an admirer, even if in secret. He knew he was from God. How many reading this secretly admire and follow God? Will you be bold for God, as was John? Will you stand for Jesus publicly, even unto death? If you will not follow Him or acknowledge him as Lord, do not fool yourself, you will not die for him. You are none of his and have already denied him. Stand up now for Jesus and he will stand for you, as he did when Stephen the deacon was stoned for his witness for Jesus.

Acts 7:54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and
Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
Acts 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the
Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Stephan was stoned to death and Jesus standing, observed his faithful witness. Stephen went to the presence of our Lord. Where will those go who deny the Lord?

Mat 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Mark - Repentance and Oil

Repentance and Oil

Mark 6:12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

Has the gospel message changed? They did not yet know of the death and resurrection of their Lord for sins. They preached the kingdom, so do we. Through Jesus we enter the kingdom of God. They also preached repentance from sins. We should too, for it seems that many want to be "saved', but do not want to change. Many never become His disciples and learn of him. Are we teaching them after salvation?

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus gives us all the power needed through the Holy Spirit and His word. We must follow His commands and make Him Lord of our life. Go, baptize, teach. Baptism includes repentance and acceptance of Jesus as Lord. We are saved through faith in Jesus and the infilling of the Holy Spirit. If no repentance? There probably is no Holy Spirit and no hunger for God's word.

Mark 6:13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

Get out the oil. The same Spirit works in those who have received Jesus and are His disciples.

Mark - Sent Forth

Sent Forth

Mark 6:7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

He gave all of them power from God, even to Judas who would betray him.

Mark 6:8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

The staff represents the Holy Spirit. They were to trust God to provide, for they were not yet hated and persecuted for their faith.

Mark 6:9 But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Mark 6:10 And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

Mat 10:13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

I have been into homes where you could feel the peace, and in homes where there was no peace.

Mark 6:11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

It is not their problem, nor ours, if people will not receive the gospel message; it is theirs. A Jew when traveling outside of Israel would shake off the dust, it was unholy to them. Sodom and Gomorrha were extremely evil, but they did not have the witness of Jesus. To reject him is a greater judgment to a city and to a nation.

Explain unequally yoked together?

2 Cor 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for
    what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and
    what communion hath light with darkness?
Yoked, bound together...Oxen were placed together with a wooden yoke so they could pull together a heavy plow. If one was weak or wanted to go another direction, the work could not be accomplished.   People who come together to work together, in a marriage or in a partnership, must be of the same mind, the same spirit and be going the same direction.   Someone loving the Lord, in the light and serving him, is not to be in partnership with a non believer, or a devil who is heading for the darkness and the things God hates.   Gary

Two Baptisms

Jhn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

 Gary, when the above vs says: born of water...is this water baptism or the original birth from the mother's womb when the water is broken and baby is born?   I had previously accepted this to be the original birth, but now am thinking that it could mean water baptism, in which case water baptism is necessary to go to heaven?

Hi ...   Read the context...   John 3:4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Nicodemus, was seeing a natural birth, in the flesh

John 3:5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
John 3:6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Jesus shows us the two births: That which is born of the flesh is flesh;

and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

John 3:7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

He preached repentance, this could include water baptism as with Paul:

Acts 22:14  And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
Acts 22:15  For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
Acts 22:16  And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Baptized in water for repentance,

calling on the name of the Lord for cleansing and salvation.

Rom 10:8  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Water baptism is a sign of the New covenant, a picture of the gospel

Rom 6:3  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Rom 6:6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Rom 6:7  For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Rom 6:8  Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Rom 6:9  Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

 The baptism of Jesus is spiritual;

 1 Cor 12:13  For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

John the Baptist said it too:   Baptism of repentance, water

Mat 3:11  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance:

Baptism of Jesus, in the Holy Spirit

but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Those who are not in Jesus shall be burned at the judgment

Mat 3:12  Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Is water baptism required?

We should be baptized in obedience. This identifies us with Jesus, publicly, for man and spirit to see. The theif on the cross was saved without baptism, grace covered him, but if we are able we should not make excuses. It shows that we are not ashamed to publicly be identified with Christ Jesus, who was publicly hung on the cross for us. He took our shame, so we do not have to be ashamed.

Mark - Unbelief at Home

Unbelief at Home

Mark 6:1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

They went to Nazareth, His hometown.

Mark 6:2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

They were astonished, saying, Who has this man been around? For they saw him as a common man. How did he do these mighty works? Maybe some sort of magic trick? They were astonished, but had made up there view of Jesus from their own predjudices.

Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Isn't this this that carpenter? The Greek word used was tekton, a skilled craftsman, such as might make a boat or home.

The son of Mary? They said this in a derogatory way, as if he was illegitimate, born out of sin. This was implied by the religious leaders who were jealous of him.

John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
John 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
John 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

Do we believe gossip? Or the word of God? The word says he came by the Holy Ghost into the virgin Mary. Jesus came from heaven, the eternal Word of God made flesh.

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

His town folks saw him as a laborer and an illegitimate son. He grew up with this unbelief surrounding him.

Mark 6:4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

People do not give others more honor than what they see about themselves. They were sinners, they assumed that Jesus was no better. In truth, Jesus had no sin. Do not let others opinions and actions towards you become your self opinion. Hear what God thinks and says about you. The Father had said of Jesus at the time of baptism: my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mark 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

Because of unbelief, Jesus could do no mighty works there. There were a few divine healings, apart from unbelief. God works through our faith, so that he receives the glory. Why honor those who follow the devil? Faith in God and His Son are required.

Mark 6:6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Often, Jesus was astonished at the unbelief, the lack of faith of the people, even his closest disciples. What would he say about us?

Lord Jesus, I believe in you. I have faith that you will do the impossible in my life and in those who trust in you. We believe in the Son of God...amen.

Mark - Fear not, only believe

Fear not, only believe

Mark 5:35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

Jesus in the midst of a crowd, on his way to touch the rulers daughter was delayed, but a good delay. The woman with an issue of blood was healed. Sometimes on the way to somewhere else, there are appointments with God. We must be sensitive at all times, for Jesus is caring for those in need. The servant brought the sad news: your daughter is dead, Jesus the master is no longer needed. Is there ever a time when Jesus is no longer needed?

Mark 5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

Fear not, only believe. These words are spoken in every book of the Bible. Yet, we being flesh look around at circumstances and we see no solution. Have we forgotten God? He can do anything and His time is not our time. Only believe. Be not afraid. Fear, depression, these things are not the result of faith in Jesus, but of unbelief. We must have faith.

Mat 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Mark 5:37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

He only allowed his close disciples to go with them, no unbelief. They had seen his miracles and should expect the impossible. Jesus is Lord of life.

Mark 5:38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

Professional wailers and mourners were at work. Do not give false sentiments, God expects truth. And don't wait for a funeral to bring flowers to a loved one, do so while thy may appreciate them.

Mark 5:39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

Jesus speaks to the tumult, saying why all the noise and bother? The child sleeps.

Mark 5:40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

The professional mourners were not believing the Lord. They laughed at him a berated him, just like some do to us when we speak of Jesus and his wonderful salvation. Nothing good can come when unbelief and opposition is in the room. Unity in God's spirit and His peace are required, so that God can show his grace. Unbelief was put out, so that Jesus could show the hand of God. He entered into where the young girl was laying. The Lord of life approached the dead in body girl.

Mark 5:41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

He took her hand and commanded her to rise. Her hand was unable to reach to Jesus, as had the lady who was able to touch the hem of his garment. The faith of others in Jesus brought him to reach for her hand.

Mark 5:42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

A great miracle the dead girl came to life and walked to the joy of those who loved her and the Lord! There was no unbelief or scorn in the room, it was to glorify God, this miracle of life.

Mark 5:43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Do not tell anyone of the miracle, or opposition will prevent his ministry. Opposition from jealous leaders and impossibly large crowds coming only to see a miracle. Are you alone with an impossible problem? Look again, Jesus is with you. Nothing shall be impossible with God, only believe. Ask in prayer and he will answer in His time.

Mark - Healing power

Healing power

Mark 5:30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

Jesus is all good, virtue was taken, the Greek word for virtue, dunamis, the word for power, strength, mighty work, miracle. He knew that power had gone out for healing and he knew who it was. He asked who touched my clothes? Would the person witness to her healing? Or would she be ashamed?

Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Mark 5:31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
Mark 5:32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

Jesus looked at the woman. That look brought conviction. Jesus knows, later on he would look at Peter who would deny him three times.

Luke 22:61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Luke 22:62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

Mark 5:33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

God loves those who come to him in truth and with a humble heart. This is the way to come to Jesus, the Son of God for healing, for salvation too.

Mark 5:34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Jesus gives peace.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Jesus is our healer, she was healed her of her plague.

1 Pet 2:24 Who his own self (Jesus) bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

He was whipped, he bled for our healing and was hung on the tree cross for our salvation from sin and death. Through faith we receive from him. Thank you Jesus.

Psa 23:3  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psa 23:4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psa 23:5  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Psa 23:6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Hallelujah to Jehovah Shammah who will never leave or forsake me. You are always there. I take comfort and am encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my helper, I will not be seized with alarm. I will not fear or dread or be terrified. What can man do to me? (Ez 48:35, Jerusalem) (The Lord Is There)

Ezek 48:35  It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there. (Jerusalem)

I worship and adore You, El Elyon, the Most High God Who is the First Cause of everything, the Possessor of the heavens and the earth. You are Everlasting God,  the Great and Living God, The Merciful God, The Faithful God the Mighty God. You are truth, justice, righteousness and Perfection. You are El-Elyon - the Highest Sovereign of the Heavens and Earth. Hallowed be Thy name. (Gen 14:18-20) (The Most High God)

Gen 14:18  And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth breadand wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
Gen 14:19  And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
Gen 14:20  And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

Father, You have exalted above all else Your name and Your Word, and You have magnified Your Word above all Your name. The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and His name is JESUS. HALLOWED BE THY NAME!

Mark - Blood

Blood

Mark 5:25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

A certain woman, a real person who suffered with bleeding that would not stop for twelve years. Life is in the blood she was in desperation.

Lev 17:14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof:...

Mark 5:26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

Many of us can relate to this woman. The physician practicing medicine were only able to remove her of her wealth. and she grew worse. Where could she go but to the Lord?

Mark 5:27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Mark 5:28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

Desperately she struggled through the crowd, if only to touch his clothing. She believed that even the garment being touch, as a part ofd who Jesus is, this would make her whole.

Mark 5:29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

Immediately she was healed, the blood stopped flowing.

Once when I was asked to take pictures at a wedding, two hours before the wedding my nose began to bleed, like a fountain. I applied pressure, every remedy I could remember it bled for an hour. I was praying and praying to Jesus, finally it stopped. I thought, oh please do not let the nose bleed around the brides beautiful white dress. The Lord was faithful. Blood loss makes you weak and desperate. I can only imagine how this woman must have felt. With God there is healing. Jesus bled for us, that we might be healed. For those who must cut themselves? Jesus was wounded for your sins, his blood cleanses us and stops the misery of the flesh weaknesses and the devil's torments. There is life in the blood of Jesus for all who believe in him.

Mark- Please heal my daughter

Please Heal my Daughter

Mark 5:21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

Jesus had gone to the Gadarenes to deliver one man with a legion of demons. Now returning to Galilee, he is greeted with a legion of people with needs. All people are needy and all people need Jesus. You are not forgotten, whether alone or in a crowd, Jesus is your hope. Seek him and he will receive you. You will not want to seek Jesus, unless God the Father has moved in your heart.

John 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Was the demon possessed man seeking God, being filled with a legion of demons? Listen, no matter the sin, God is reaching out to you; come to Jesus.

Mark 5:22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Mark 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

Most of the rulers did not believe in Jesus, but, Jairus put away his views for the sake of his dying daughter. Many used to send their children to Sunday School, but not attend themselves. They saw something good there for their children, but not for them. Are you too sophisticated for Jesus? That is pride. Are you wiser than Jesus, or are you believing as the world? Are you without sin? Jesus was, so how can you be his judge? This is just wrong thinking. Jesus is a sound mind. Come to him and receive of him

Mark 5:24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

The crowd saw the work of Jesus, it was good. They followed him now, but at the end they would agree to crucify him. Their love was faulty, so many of the world have this kind of love that wants to receive or take from another, but this love is not pure, it takes and then leaves, or turns upon the giver. God's love is pure, a sacrificial love, such as Jesus who gave himself for us. In Jesus is healing and eternal life. He will not leave you.

Mark - Your testimony First

Your Testimony First

Mark 5:14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
Mark 5:15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

The pig feeders witnessed a great sight. The demon possessed man had a legion of demons cast out of him by Jesus. The demons were so many that they entered all 2000 swine who rushed off a cliff into the sea. These great signs pointed to the power and holiness of Jesus, Son of God. Would they see him as he is and be drawn to him?

Mark 5:16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

Remember the story of the prodigal son who took his inheritance from his father early? He spent it all on his lusts until he had no money and this resulted in no friends. He fed the pigs and ate the husks until he came to his senses?

Luke 15:16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
Luke 15:17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
Luke 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

The Father saw him coming and hugged him, restoring him to what he was meant to be. The swine feeders and their friends had evidence, what would they do with it? Would they run to God through Jesus asking to be forgiven and restored?

Mark 5:17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

They prayed, beseeched and begged Jesus to depart, to leave, to go away. Their finances were in the sea with the dead pigs. This was not prosperity preaching. The true prosperity would be a changed heart, they were only upset. This was the viewpoint of the spectators and often the viewpoint of those we witness too. Go depart, leave, get out of here.

Mark 5:18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

The man who was free from the legion of devils was grateful to Jesus. He truly was free and in his right mind. He wanted to follow Jesus. That is very good.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Mark 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Mark 5:20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

Listen, this is important. You may think that to serve Jesus best that you must follow him to a foreign land. Listen to Jesus. Your ministry starts right where you live. Witness to those you know. If you were a bad sinner, they will see the difference.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

It starts in Jerusalem, your home city. Be faithful there sharing your testimony and you may have opportunities to minister all over the world. Listen to Jesus and obey him. All the men who saw the witness of the demon possessed man of what Jesus had done for him, marveled, God was glorified in his witness.

Titus - Doctrine

Titus 2:1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

The Judaizing teachers not only taught a false doctrine, but they led an unholy life; Titus was to act directly opposite; he must teach a sacred doctrine, and the things which become it; he must proclaim the truth, and illustrate that truth. The people must not only be well instructed, but they must be holy in their lives. Principle and practice must go hand in hand. (Clark)

One new Christian said, why don't Christians agree? Why are they always arguing?

Sound doctrine is the word of God taken in context. It is accurately spoken and it is God's absolute truth. If the word of God is not clearly understood, probably others do not understand either. Do not supply the answer if something is not clear. We are not to assume something is true and then look for support for our view in God's word. We must examine all the word to understand about a teaching. Doctrines that divide, probably are not the whole truth but part of a larger truth. We cannot preach one verse and overlook all others.

2 Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Tim 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Preach the word as it is and do not speak words to make an audience happy or to entertain them.

2 Tim 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2 Tim 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Tim 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Sound docrine has Jesus at the center.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

He is the way of salvation and restoration to God, the Father. We were originally created in his image, to have fellowship with him. Satan tempted Eve and Adam did notcorrect her.

Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

The result was through believing the lie, they died in body and in spirit. Blood sacrifice was required for the covering of sins. By faith in God's promises, the Son, the seed, salvation comes to us.

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

What are basic doctrines that we should teach? Perhaps we should examine some of the assumptions that we hear?

Assumption: God loves everyone.

God loves us through receiving Jesus as Lord. His justice will send the non believer to hell. We cannot separate his love from his justice.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Assumption: We are all God's children, he would not send anyone to hell.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Mat 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
Mat 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

The sheep are those who believe and follow Jesus, the shepherd. The goats are those who do not believe and do not belong to him.

Mat 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Hell was created for the devil and his angels. Those who go to hell would not repent from their sins and come to Jesus for forgiveness and a new life.

Assumption: Water baptism in Jesus' name is salvation.

We are commanded to be baptized as a sign to men and spirits that we identify with Jesus Christ. Baptism is in obedience. Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ, wherein we receive grace to become the eternal children of God.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Assumption: We are saved by keeping the law of Moses

The law cannot save us, for only Jesus could keep all the law. The law brings death because of sin. After salvation through faith in Jesus, we do good works and the fruit of God's Holy Spirit.

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

The new life is in Christ, we are to conform to his mind.

1 Cor 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

There is only one God - Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8; John 17:3; 1 Cor. 8:5-6; Gal. 4:8-9

  Isa 43:10  Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. (Always was, always will be.)
Isa 43:11  I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. (Jesus is God.)
Isa 43:12  I have declared, and have saved, and I have showed, when there wasno strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
Isa 43:13  Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it? (We do not command God.)
Isa 43:14  Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
Isa 43:15  I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.
Isa 44:6  Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.   Jesus speaking in Revelation:   Rev 22:12  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Rev 22:13  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Isa 44:7  And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them show unto them. Isa 44:8  Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

Isa 44:9  They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
John 17:3  And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.   1 Cor 8:5  For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
1 Cor 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
Gal 4:8  Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
Gal 4:9  But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
Gal 4:10  Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
Gal 4:11  I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

God is a Trinity, Triune - 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Pet. 1:2; 1John 5:7

2 Cor 13:14  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

1 Pet 1:2  Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

1 John 5:7  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Mark - A Legion of Demons

A Legion of Demons

Mark 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

The naked mad man, knew who Jesus was. It was the foul spirit that spoke. Jesus speaks to the spirit: come out of the man, you unclean spirit.

Mark 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

Legion, a Roman legion had from 3000 to 6000 men. We do not know how many demons were in him, but there were many, enough to inhabit a great herd of swine.

Mark 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

Mat 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

Send them to hell, as was the fear of the demon who spoke to Jesus in the synagogue.

Mark 1:23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

Mark 1:24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

Demons use bodies to destroy people, to speak false messages and to fight the progress of God's kingdom.

Mark 5:11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

The Jews hated swine, they were unclean animals to them. Those who owned the swine were Gentiles.

Mark 5:12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

A legion of devils wanted to inhabit the swine, it was not yet time for their judgment.

Mark 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

A legion of 2000 swine inhabited by demons went crazy, and killed themselves. One of their job duties was to kill. With the death of the swine, the spirits were free to roam the earth. Perhaps they will entice you or someone you knowto commit suicide? Keep close to God and do not let emotions and thoughts rule you. Jesus is Lord, speak his name out loud in time of need.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

The elect, are they Jews?

The elect are those who are saved, some are Jews by believing in Jesus.

Rom 9:22  What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
Rom 9:23  And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
Rom 9:24  Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
Rom 9:25  As he saith also in Osee, (Hosea) I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
Rom 9:26  And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
Rom 9:27  Esaias (Isaiah) also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
Rom 9:28  For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
Rom 9:29  And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
Rom 9:30  What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, (Non Jews) which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
Rom 9:31  But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
Rom 9:32  Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
Rom 9:33  As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone (Jesus) and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Mark - Demon Possessed

Demon Possessed

Mark 5:1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

They had crossed the sea of Galilee, Jesus having calmed the storm by speaking to it. The disciples were sinful, in the presence of God the son, so close. in the same boat, safe but feeling unworthy. At last they are to the other side. Always crowds gathered to meet Jesus with their needs, but this time there was only one man.

Mark 5:2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
Mark 5:3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
Mark 5:4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

Luke 8:27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

Oh great, they were safe from the storm and now a naked mad man comes towards them, a hulk of a man with super strength, powered by devils. Jesus, you are needed for sure now.

Mark 5:5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

We have people today who cut themselves. According to this story it is because of the torment of devils. The cutter somehow feels release by punishing themselves with pain.

Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

This mad man worshipped Jesus? No, he spoke his name.

Mark 5:7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

These were the demons speaking. They knew the spirit world and they saw Jesus as he is. Why can't the skeptics who live such unclean lives see Jesus today? Jesus in person was before him, they knew and confessed that he is the Son of the most high God No, not a god, as Mormon's and Jehovah's witnesses say, the brother of satan, nor a self deceived human claiming to be God, that would not cause the demons to speak out. He was and is the true and holy living Son of God, the Father and Son are one Spirit. The spirit world knows the Spirit of God and they tremble.

We do not come against demons in the flesh.

Acts 19:14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
Acts 19:16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

Mark - Calming the Storm

Calming the Storm

Mark 4:35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
Mark 4:36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
Mark 4:37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

It was night, they were in a ship, a large boat and there were others following in small boats when a storm came suddenly. A great wind caused waves to beat into the ship, it was filled with water.

Mark 4:38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

Jesus was asleep on a pillow at the stern of the ship. He had found a place to lay his head after being so pressed by the crowd.

Mat 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

Never given much rest, again Jesus was awakened by the frightened disciples. Carest not that we perish? Oh yes he cares. He is not willing that any should perish. Yet, how many call upon him when in trouble, but when trouble passes, they soon forget their need of him? Speaking of foxes? Some have fox hole conversions, they promise to serve God while under fire, but when the danger passes, they ignore their promise.

Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

He immediately arose, Christ arose to meet their needs. Christ would arise from the grave to save us, there is no holding back the Son of God, when his own call upon him. Immediately the elements were teamed; Jesus has dominion over the earth, he spoke and there was a great calm. Is your life in a storm? Is your spiritual boat filling up, are you fearful? Call upon Jesus, trust in him, he calms the storm and brings great peace.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Mark 4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

Where is that mustard seed faith? Did you think that you would perish when Jesus is with you?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Mark 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

First they feared the sea, the wind and the sinking ship. Now they had a new kind of fear; the fear of God. They were sinful flesh, Jesus was God with them in the flesh, but without sin. They were aware of their weakness and sin and at the same time aware of God's mighty strength and holiness. This is the fear of God.

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Fear God, repent and come to Jesus who gave his life and took it up again so that you may be saved from your weaknesses and receive God's forgiveness and strength. Life everlasting is the promise of Jesus to those who trust in him.

Mark - Mustard Seed

Mustard Seed

Mark 4:30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

Jesus continues to speak about the spiritual kingdom of God, now he uses a parable as a comparison.

Mark 4:31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

The tiniest seed sown in a heart, a little of God's word sown with faith:

Mark 4:32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

This could be a parable of the church, all who profess to be Christians. The word in hearts has unusual growth; from a tiny start a great church grows. Suppose the seed was misunderstood? There would be error in the church, birds in the branches. The fowls of the air represent satan and his powers. In all who profess Christ, some are among us who are not of us. They come to take away the word.

Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Mark 4:33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

Parables illustrate a message on two levels. The spiritual hearer should see spiritual things, the natural man just hears a story.

Mark 4:34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

Jesus always used parables when he spoke, later he would explain them to his closest disciples. Some people will not receive God's good message. There is a parable for them:

Mat 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

The word falling on good ground will take root. If they will not receive the pure word, but abuse it and you, then speak to these in a parable, and move on. Remember, speak words of grace in love, do not give back angry words. They will see God in you.

1 Pet 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Titus - False ones

False ones

Titus 1:10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

unruly; not under submission to authority

vain talkers; speaking empty worthless words

deceivers; seducers, seeking to take advantage of you

the circumcision; the old covenant Jews, those who do not understand nor receive the grace of Jesus, or those who wish to put Jewish customs upon the Christians. For example, insisting in circumcision.

Gal 5:10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.
Gal 5:11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
Gal 5:12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Titus 1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

These dangerous false teachers must be exposed and stopped, they are seeking your money. They want to use you and are dangerous to follow, for they are not of God.

Titus 1:12 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

False prophets speaking words to condemn others, making destructive prophecies to destroy those they do not favor. Assuming to speak from God, they speak harm and destruction. A prophet is not to speak false words. Some want the title and speak words of a soon coming event and are false. Avoid them. Prophecy is not of a man or woman, but of God.

One of their false prophets was a racist, placing lies and curses in the place of truth. Be careful in your use of the word "all." Unless, God says it, it probably isn't so. Hitler used racism, calling the Jews vermin, so that this lie led to the extermination of millions of God's covenant people.

God said this:

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

God's "all," provides grace with it. He gives us a way to escape. Jesus came to save, not to destroy with words, but with words of grace. Beware of anyone who claims to speak for God who curses, without giving a way to escape. We speak words of life and truth.

1 Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

There are true prophets and false prophets

2 Pet 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Pet 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 Pet 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2 Pet 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Titus 1:13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

Rebuke them sharply, this is serious, convict them of their wrong doing with a strong rebuke, it is not something to be ignored. Speak to them, not by your thoughts or feelings, but by God's sound word, restore them with sound doctrine and restore them in the faith having repented of their sins.

Titus 1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

The Jews had many regulations and ordinances that were made up by men. We are not to be under the bondage of men's words or presumptions.

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

We are not under their rules, but under Christ and his blood, free to serve him with cleansed hearts, through the Holy Spirit. Any witness for Christ will be confronted by mockers, but we must remain in the sound word of God's truth.

Titus 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

How true, to the pure of heart, all things they do and say are pure. But, to those who are defiled by sin and unbelief, nothing is pure, not even their conscience. They have no frame of reference, no absolutes, all is wicked imaginations. They need prayer so that God will soften their unbelieving hearts to the acknowledgment of Jesus Christ. Restoration is in Jesus.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

They profess a God of their making, not showing a change in their behavior. In their lifestyle they deny him. They are:

abominable; detestable, disgusting in behavior, most unpleasant to be around them.

disobedient, self willed, not under authority of man or God. They refuse to obey that which is good and true.

reprobate; morally corrupt, despising that which is good, depraved.

And yet, they profess to know God.

Mat 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Mat 3:10 And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

We are to attempt to restore them by strong rebuke and the truth of God. God must change them, we must witness, motivated by love and pray for them.

Mark - Kingdom Harvest

Kingdom Harvest

Mark 4:26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

Listen to Jesus speaking: We already know in a parable the seed means God's word and the ground is a heart. So, the kingdom of God is as if a man should speak forth God's word into another's heart. Our responsibility before God is to broadcast his word.

Mark 4:27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

The seed of the word will grow in a heart, depending on the readiness of the heart. It is of God, the work of God, not something we do, so we rest in Jesus.

Mark 4:28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

The earth brings forth fruit, it is not the doing of the sower. All he did was plant the seed. Likewise, the word of God once planted, the growing depends on the kind of soul, or the readiness of the heart. God makes the word grow. What the heart does with the word, will be the end result. Satan may plant thorns, the heart may allow this to choke out the word. The thoughts of man or the world and the devil will take root too. What will come forth will depend on what was chosen by the heart and the will of the person.

Mark 4:29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

Will the harvest be good, a crop following the planting of God's word? If so this is the fruit of the kingdom of God. It depends on the heart and mind of the person. A yielded humble heart will increase the things of God. The person will want to grow the kingdom by planting God's word in other hearts. The sickle, the death of a person will mean the harvest is over, the good is gathered into God's house, the bad shall be burned.

Mat 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Mark - Hear, give and receive

Hear, give and receive

Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

We are careful to hear the word of God, for it is truth. What we hear we share with others. There is a principle here, that what ever you give out of God's things, we will receive more than we give.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Mark 4:25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

For he that has what? He that has heard the word of God and has obeyed the word, sharing with others; to him more will be given. One person entered our Bible study and said she was not interested in hearing God's word, the person just wanted fellowship. To me the best fellowship is with God, in his word, hearing his voice. In this way we increase. If we are faithful hearers and doers of his word, he will give us more. I want more of God, more wisdom and more usefulness to him. If we hear and share, he will give the increase. My words are empty, his words are food to our Spirit, the light and the truth of God for an eternal increase.

A final thought. Satan wants us to use our own thoughts, in fellowship without speaking the word of God. In this way he introduces his ideas and thoughts, that are contrary to the sound word of God. Debate and strife follow in these "fellowship" chat rooms. Do not put down your sword, the word of God. When you least expect it, the enemy will come at you with a pack of his wolves to devour you. Wear the armour of God and speak the word of God in the love of our Lord. Who knows, maybe someone will hear and another will receive salvation through your witness?

Explain this Verse

revelation 14 12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of GOD and the  faith  of  Jesus

What are the commandments of God for us?

Mark 9:7  And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

What is the patience of the saints?

Their works follow them: The patient endurance and work of these saints is remembered in heaven. Our work for the Lord goes with us into heaven. Your witnessing and prayers shall be remembered. You could do nothing and still go to heaven, because you are saved in Jesus. But, we really do love God and want to serve him, don't we? We are free.

1 Pet 2:15  For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
1 Pet 2:16  As free, (saved by Jesus) and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
1 Pet 2:17  Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

One basic truth here, by faith in Jesus we are saved, not by works of the law. Second, once saved we obey him from His Spirit that gives us his truth. Third, apart from Jesus our law keeping is never enough to escape God's wrath, but in Jesus we are FREE of God's wrath.   By this we know that Jesus saves us and after we are saved he wants us to obey him. No man can obey apart from God's help. We have God in us now. We are blessed, and we are free of God's wrath.

Mark - Light of God

Light of God

Mark 4:21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

Let God's light shine through your life. We do not make excuses for not doing this. We witness, we are kind and gentle. We pray for others, we encourage, correct, love, restore the fallen. We reach the lost with the Word of God, show mercy. We are to do whatever we can to be like Jesus and to be His voice, arms and feet.

Isa 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

Mark 4:22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

Where there is light we see, there is nothing hidden, no darkness to hide things. We stumble in darkness, but where His light is we see things as they are. The light of God's word reveals the heart of a person.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Heb 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Mark 4:23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

Scriptures for the New Year

Your High Calling

Phil 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Phil 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Eph 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

 2 Tim 1:12  For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
2 Tim 1:13  Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Tim 1:14  That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

 New Heart

Psa 139:23  Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
Psa 139:24  And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
  2 Cor 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

2 Cor 5:18  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Cor 5:19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2 Cor 5:20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2 Cor 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

2 Cor 6:1  We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

 Put off the Old - Put on the New

 Eph 4:17  This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Eph 4:18  Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Eph 4:19  Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Eph 4:20  But ye have not so learned Christ;
Eph 4:21  If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Eph 4:22  That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Eph 4:24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 4:29  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Eph 4:30  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Eph 4:31  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Eph 4:32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Eph 5:1  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
Eph 5:2  And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Eph 5:3  But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
Eph 5:4  Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
Eph 5:5  For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Eph 5:6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Rom 13:10  Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Rom 13:11  And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Rom 13:12  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Rom 13:13  Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Rom 13:14  But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

 1 Cor 15:51  Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1 Cor 15:52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1 Cor 15:53  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1 Cor 15:54  So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
1 Cor 15:55  O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1 Cor 15:56  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
1 Cor 15:57  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Cor 15:58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

 Gal 3:24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Gal 3:25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Gal 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29  And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

 Eph 4:11  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13  Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Eph 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16  From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Eph 4:20  But ye have not so learned Christ;
Eph 4:21  If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Eph 4:22  That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
Eph 4:23  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Eph 4:24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Eph 4:25  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

 Eph 6:11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may beable to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Eph 6:13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Eph 6:18  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Eph 6:19  And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

 Col 3:10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Col 3:11  Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Col 3:12  Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Col 3:13  Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Col 3:14  And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
Col 3:15  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Col 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Col 3:17  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
