Luke- A Prophet

A Prophet

Luke 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

Earlier, Jesus had said to his disciples, who do you think I am?

Mat 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Mat 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Cleopas describes Jesus as a prophet, mighty in deed and word.True, Jesus spoke God's word with authority and healed the people, casting out devils, feeding the people, calming the seas and much more.

Luke 24:20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

They did this with the people's support.

Luke 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

They wanted him to establish his kingdom at that time. Now it was three days since this was done. Where is he?

Luke 24:22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
Luke 24:23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
Luke 24:24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

Had they not believed the reports?

Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Mark 9:31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

Luke 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

Jesus had told them these things before his death and resurrection.

Mat 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
