Isaiah2 - Bowing to Idols

Bowing to Idols

Isa 2:5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Come out of the darkness of sin and walk in the light of God's truth.

Psa 4:6 There be many that say, Who will show us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

Isa 2:6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.

They have left their covenant promise to God and have followed the false mystics from the East. They have pleased themselves with the pleasures of the ungodly. Perhaps these false ones are as those we hear from today, wanting you to be open minded, inviting in false doctrines and tempting heresies, they say; be tolerant, be at ease in Zion with the pleasures of sin.

Isa 2:7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:

The land is full of worldly treasures as today, two cars in every garage, the land is full of horses and chariots. The were making these things more important than God.

Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

If blessed by God, bless others. Use your wealth to benefit the kingdom of God. Wealth is not bad if it is used for God's glory, and we still trust in our Lord.

Isa 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

They worshipped idols and man made possessions.

Isa 2:9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.

The common man and the great, bowed down to idols: therefore forgive them not. A stern warning that God is a jealous God. They were not keeping His commandments.

Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not makeunto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Exo 20:6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
