Isaiah 22 - The Burden of Jerusalem

Burden of Jerusalem

Isa 22:1 The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

The valley of vision, Jerusalem, the place of the worship of God; a city on a hill in the midst of three valleys. What is wrong with you people, that you are mourning on your housetops?

Psa 125:2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

Isa 22:2 Thou that art full of stirs, a tumultuous city, a joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.

What is this confusion? Is it tumult or are you joyous? Your men have not died in warfare. The men died of famine or of cowardly fear.

Jer 14:18 If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

Isa 22:3 All thy rulers are fled together, they are bound by the archers: all that are found in thee are bound together, which have fled from far.

All the rulers were far away and together, without bow or arrow.

Isa 22:4 Therefore said I, Look away from me: I will weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.

Isaiah wept for the destruction of the daughters of Jerusalem. The men and rulers would not defend them, but they fled as cowards or died by fear or hunger.

Jerusalem was away from God and would be taken captive by Babylon. What will happen to America, that turns it's back on God?
