Isaiah 21 - Edom and Arabia

Edom and Arabia

Isa 21:11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

Dumah was another ancient name for the kingdom of Edom, in the mountainous region of Seir. The Edomites descended from Esau. What of the night, how soon shall this darkness be over?

Isa 21:12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will inquire, inquire ye: return, come.

Light is coming, where is the good news? Jesus said of himself:

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

But night is coming again, hard things.

John 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
John 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light...

inquire ye: return, come -- Edom had forsaken God, now they are invited to come to him. They had been enemies of God and his people. Jesus calls those who have rebelled and gone there own way, those who have opposed him, to come to him.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Isa 21:13 The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.

Arabia would be caught in the conflict and judgment of Babylon. There are no forests in Arabia, but forests may stand for those planted of God.

Isa 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Isa 21:14 The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.
Isa 21:15 For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

Gen 25:15 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:
Gen 25:16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.

Food and water were provided by other kindred peoples.

Isa 21:16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:
Isa 21:17 And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken it.

Gen 25:13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

In one years time, the Arabs of Kedar would fall.

These are the prophecies of Isaiah.
