Genesis 1 - In the beginning GOD

Gen 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

In the beginning of all creation, there was God, elohiym, the plural name for God. From the beginning the triune God is mentioned. We know Him as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He created and fashioned the heaven, (the sky) and the earth.

Isa 48:13  Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.

Gen 1:2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The earth was without form and void of life. It was dark, light is required to see form. The Holy Spirit moved upon the face of the waters.

Isa 45:18  For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
The Holy Spirit of God moved across the waters of the created earth and seas.

Gen 1:3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

The Word spoke; let there be light: and there was light. God the Son spoke and it was so.

Heb 1:2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2  The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Gen 1:4  And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

The sun had not yet been created. Perhaps the light was from God himself, his light, his presence and his truth.

Gen 1:5  And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

He divided the light from the darkness, his light from the darkness, and he called the darkness night. The first day was created, the first day of creation.

Gen 1:6  And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

All was wet, the air and atmosphere were a blanket of water. This water was separated from the bodies of water. This was not like rain, for the first rain came at Noahs time. Probably a heavy mist.

Gen 1:7  And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

The firmament is just the air space dividing the waters.

Gen 1:8  And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

The heaven, the atmosphere and clouds and this was the second day of creation.

Gen 1:9  And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
Gen 1:10  And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

The land appeared separated from the seas.

Gen 1:11  And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

Plants were created, illuminated by the light that God provided.

Rev 22:5  And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Gen 1:12  And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:13  And the evening and the morning were the third day.

The third day brought all kinds of plant life. All that God does is good.
