Luke - The Greatest

Luke 22:23 And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

Who would betray Jesus?

Luke 22:24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

So soon the topic changes, who will be the greatest? There was competition and strife. They did not see that Jesus would soon go to the cross for them. They were as men of the world competing and boasting for positions of importance.

Luke 22:25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
Luke 22:26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

The way of God is opposite to mans way. The younger shall be (esteemed) greater, the chief, shall be servant.

Phil 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Phil 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Luke 22:27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

Jesus was our example, he came as a servant and he is greater than we are.

John 13:13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
John 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
John 13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
John 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

Give this deep thought; meditate on these words and do as he says.
