Genesis 9 - Noah's Three Son's

Noah's Three Son's

Gen 9:18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.

The three sons of Noah are always listed in this order: Shem amd Ham, and Japheth; although Japeth was the elder and Ham the younger brother. Shem would bring forth the lineage of the Messiah, through Abraham.

Gen 9:19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.

Gen 9:20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:

Time had passed, a vineyard had grown and grapes were harvested.

Gen 9:21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

Perhaps, this was the first fermented wine. Noah became drunk and passed out in his tent. He lay naked on his bed, within the tent.

Prov 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Prov 23:30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
Prov 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
Prov 23:32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
Prov 23:33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Prov 23:34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
Prov 23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Gen 9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

Ham saw the nakedness of his father, and instead of saying nothing, he told his brothers.

Gen 9:23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.

Shem and Japheth covered their father without looking upon his nakedness. They had respect for him.

Rom 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
Rom 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Gen 9:24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

Threre is no record beyond the scriptures of any other wrong doing, but Ham did not show honor and respect to his father. The son's had lived in a wicked world before the flood and apparently the wicked imaginations were in Ham.

Gen 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. One of the abominations of the LORD:

Prov 6:18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

Jesus spoke of the time of Noah and the time of Lot as it would be on earth at his coming. We know the people of Lot were wicked homosexuals.

Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
Luke 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
Luke 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Gen 9:25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

Noah as a prophet of God, spoke a prophecy to Ham's grandson: Canaan. Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

This doom has been fulfilled in the destruction of the Canaanites.

Gen 9:26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

Shem brought forth Abraham, the Jews and the Messiah.

Gen 9:27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

Japheths decendants were the Greeks, the Gentiles, who would make up the church and occupy the tents, the spiritual place of Israel.

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Gen 9:28 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
Gen 9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

Noah was a chosen man of God, the second Adam, let us see what was said of this man of God.

Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Noah lived a long life, as did his sons. Noah was called a righteous man, because his faith found grace in the LORD.

Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah:
Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

2 Pet 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

The order of the Son's names are always, Shem, Ham and Japheth.

Arthur Custance writes:

Abraham's Three Wives

The first was Sarah, a daughter of Shem

Gen 11:29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

The second was Hagar, the Egyptian, a daughter of Ham.

Gen 16:3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

The third wife Keturah, was descended in the line of Japheth, according to Jewish tradition.

Gen 25:1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. The gospels are in the order of thethree son's of Noah.

Matthew was written to Israel, the descendants of Shem.

Mark was written to the servants, the descendants of Ham.

Luke was written to the Greeks, the descendants of Japheth.
