Luke-afraid to ask

Luke 9:43  And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,  

They were amazed that at his command the devil left the child and was healed. They were amazed when he fed the 5000. They were amazed when he said, peace be still and the wind and waves were stilled. Jesus is amazing and he was doing the will of his Father in heaven.

Luke 9:44  Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
Luke 9:45  But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.  

Several times he would tell them this message.  

Luke 9:22  Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.   They could not understand, the meaning was hid from them. One reason they did not understand is that they were afraid to ask him questions. Questions for understanding are good. Never be afraid to ask questions concerning the things of God.   Some who are of the devil ask questions to sow strife and confusion.  

James 3:14  But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
James 3:15  This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
James 3:16  For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
James 3:17  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
James 3:18  And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
 

 We must be careful who we listen to. If we ask questions of a devil possessed person, he will lead you astray. Jesus speaks the truth.
Jesus was no devil, he is God the Son. Why is it that they were not able to understand him? Is the devil hindering the hearing?

John 12:38  That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
John 12:39  Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
John 12:40  He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.  

Perhaps they just could not understand, because they did not have God's Spirit for discernment?  

1 Cor 2:14  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  

 All this to say this:   If you have a question, seek the word of God or someone who you trust to help you, who knows the word. Do not listen to those who sow discord, for they will lead you into confusion. God is not a God of confusion.  

 2 Tim 1:7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

spiritual battle

We must enter into the battle as a force that makes the devil nervous. God is going to train us to meet and overcome the resistance of the enemy. In an army; there are all kinds of job descriptions and duties. We are all a part of God's Army and we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. (gh)

Yes, for he has already overcome the enemy. The devil comes with lies, we speak the word of truth. The devil comes to steal, we remove the captives from captivity. He comes to kill, God gives us life. He comes to  destroy, we offer eternal life, now and forever. The Spirit and the word by faith defeat the devil. It is a spiritual battle by spiritual people.

Luke-hear Jesus

Luke 9:32  But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.  

They seemed to sleep when they should be watching. This was for their benefit too. How many of us mean well, but fall asleep reading the Bible and praying? Get sleep, but not in place of these important things. Make room for the things that build your faith   When they were awake, they saw his glory and the two men. We should see the glory that is Jesus, he is above all men. He is God the Son.

Luke 9:33  And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.  

As they departed, Moses and Elijah, Peter realizes who the two men were. He wanted them to stay, so he blurts out; let me make three dwellings from branches, as when we celebrate the feast of tabernacles. Let's have a religious celebration.

Luke 9:34  While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.  

As Peter spoke a cloud of glory overshadows them and covers them. They are covered with the presence of God, as the cloud that covered Moses on Mt. Sinai.  

Exo 24:16  And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.
Exo 24:17  And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.
Exo 24:18  And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
Exo 25:1  And the LORD spake unto Moses... 
 

 The very presence of God was in the cloud and spoke out as Peter was still speaking. Are we like Peter, talking from our many thoughts when we should be still, in the presence of God? We need to listen as Peter, to hear from God.

Luke 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.  

Hear my Son. You have heard Moses and the law. You have heard my prophets. Now someone greater is come. This is my Son: hear him.  

1 Cor 15:27  For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
1 Cor 15:28  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Luke 9:36  And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.  

Jesus stood alone. He stands alone among men in authority, power, truth and grace. Listen to Jesus, he is the way to the Father.

Luke-A glimpse of Glory

A Glimpse of Glory   Luke 9:27  But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.  

This was spoken over two thousand years ago. Some refer to this verse to prove the Bible to not be the truth. The Bible is all true.  

2 Pet 3:3  Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2 Pet 3:4  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Here is the coming of the kingdom of heaven in the glorified Christ. Remember that Jesus brought the kingdom of heaven with him, the presence of God with man.   Mat

12:28  But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Luke 9:28  And it cameto pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.  

Some of them will see the kingdom of heaven, the glorified Lord Jesus Christ and the living of those who were from the past.

Luke 9:29  And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.  

Before their eyes they see the brightness of his glory. Jesus has prayed that we shall be with him forever, to see him as he is. Jesus came to complete the redemption of those who by faith receive the promise of eternal life in glory with him. Meditate on these things.  

John 17:24  Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

Luke 9:30  And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:  

Moses and Elijah, the law giver and the beloved prophet of God, standing before him, alive, alive forevermore. A proof of our eternal life in Christ Jesus. They are not dead. There is no death for those who trust in Jesus. We receive a new glorified body. God is the God of the living!  

Mark 12:26  And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

Mark 12:27  He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

Luke 9:31  Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.  

Moses and Elijah knew. They knew that Jesus must shed his blood, to fulfill the promise they had received by faith.  

Mat 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.  

 The communion wine,a picture of the shed blood of Jesus Christ which was shed for all; Moses, Elijah, the old testament saints, and Jew and Gentile believers then, now and in the future. The blood is the power for our deliverance, from sin and the devil, to righteousness and eternal life. He would accomplish this in Jerusalem, the holy city of God.   Moses and Elijah speak these things before his disciples; Peter and John and James. They saw the kingdom of God and we have received the witness; Jesus is Lord and our savior.

As I wrote this, three Jehovah's witnesses came to the door. One was a small boy. They did not understand God's kingdom. I began to show them their error and to open the truth from the Bible. Jesus shall rule with God in the kingdom of heaven.   

Rev 22:3  And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: 

 They turned away and left. Will you leave Jesus for another belief?

How to escape the ruts...

 

Hi, i'd like to say goodmorning and i hope your doing alright during all the things going on in the world. I have a question and would like your opinion. In a hypathetical situation like a man or group of people stranded on an island and cannot get off although they are trying everyday, its been years and maybe a few decades..why would they be in that situation? is that where God needed them to be for a serious reason? This is more of a metaphor to compare to some others lives where they feel stuck, in a rut, hopeless ect.... ` CJ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not knowing all about what you are meaning, I can relate to this from my own experience. We need God to get us out of the ruts of this life. One man said that a rut is a grave with the end open. Use the open end to reach out to God. Without God we cannot move forwards.  

We come to God through his son Jesus, who took our sins to the cross. Trust in Jesus puts us into a new covenant relationship with God. He becomes our way and our strength and all things are possible through him. If we are trusting God we know we are where he wants us. As Paul said:

Phil 4:12  I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Phil 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Luke-Ashamed?

Luke 9:25  For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?  

Solomon was a wise man in his time. He wrote the book of Ecclesiastes, which was a view of the world from his perspective; the richest of men with everything he desired from this life. These are his words:  

 Eccl 1:2  Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. (empty)
Eccl 1:3  What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
Eccl 1:14  I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.  

Life is empty if it is about ourselves, but when we are in Christ Jesus, life is beautiful and full of meaning. I love his word.  Solomon's father was King David, a man after God's own heart. He spoke the Psalms.  

 Psa 56:10  In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
Psa 56:11  In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Psa 56:12  Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
Psa 56:13  For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

Paul wrote of our life being as a race and that we must run the race lawfully, lest we be a castaway, disqualified.  

1 Cor 9:27  But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.   As David, we must encourage ourselves in the Lord, stay in his word and prayer. There are other voices and spirits who seek to destroy the work of Jesus in our lives. We must not be swayed by the ill winds that blow, but press on, for we are of a higher calling.  

 Phil 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Phil 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Phil 3:15  Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
 

 Luke 9:26  For whosoever shall be ashamed of meand of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
 

 It is OK if others seek to shame me, for I am in Christ. Those who hate him will hate us. We keep on loving our Lord, warning the lost when possible, but keeping ourselves from their evil ways. We are a holy people, sanctified and set apart for His fellowship. We are the light of Christ in a sin darkened world. One man said to me, there are more of us (God haters) than yours. So be it, it is their choice. I will glorify the Lord, for I am not ashamed, I am greatly honored to be with my Lord Jesus Christ, He is why I live. No one will pass by my grave waving a stick wondering where I will be. I know where I am going and you know, we are not ashamed to be with Jesus.  

 Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Eaglewings Ministries

Luke-Your cross

  

Luke 9:22  Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.  

This is our gospel, the good news. Jesus came to die on the cross, rejected by the religious leaders, and to be raised on the third day. What does this mean? It means that he paid for our sins in full. No matter how many, how bad or how long you have sinned, They are paid in full through the work of Jesus Christ. Who is this man? He is the sinless son of Almighty God, our Savior. Through trusting Him, we are forgiven of all sins and curses and translated into God's kingdom of Light.

Luke 9:23  And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.  

What should we do after so great a salvation?  

Heb 2:1  Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

 
Let us not forget the price that was paid for our sins. We cannot save ourselves. Some cultures have a custom, that when someone saves another's life, that the one saved becomes the servant of the savior. This is what we are to do. We are servants of the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. If you will follow Jesus, you must deny yourself. Deny your thoughts and your ways and take up your cross daily. This is not a one time thing. Salvation is one time, AND it is for every day and forever. We can never repay the price paid for sin, but we can remove ourselves from the life of sin and serve our Lord and Savior. We are to deny our self, dying to self and living for God requires that we take up our cross -- daily.

Luke 9:24  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.  

Give up the old way of life for the new life in the inner man. If we save our old way of life, we cannot receive the new life through faith and obedience to Jesus. We must die to the old way, the old man of sin and live in the new man, after the Holy Spirit of God.  

Rom 6:6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.   As dead to sin and living unto Christ Jesus.  

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  

1 Sam 15:22  And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
1 Sam 15:23  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee ...

A sacrifice is no good unless we obey God. He cares not for dead rituals, for he searches your hearts. We need no glory of the flesh in being living martyrs, but the glory is of God by obedience and service to Him. Jesus paid it all, we are as he is in this world and shall be with him for all eternity, by faith and obedience. We bear our cross willingly, for we are yoked with Jesus, His grace is with us and He takes our burdens to His cross. Give all to Jesus.  

1 Pet 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
