Yielding our will

When you yield to something, you will soon realize the tremendous control it has over you. Even though you say, "Oh, I can give up that habit whenever I like," you will know you can’t. You will find that the habit absolutely dominates you because you willingly yielded to it. It is easy to sing, "He will break every fetter," while at the same time living a life of obvious slavery to yourself. But yielding to Jesus will break every kind of slavery in any person’s life. (Oswald Chambers)

Some are mad at God because he will not remove their habits. We must submit our will to Jesus completely, then we are free. If our lusts control us and demons tempt through the flesh. Speak the word of God and they will flee.

James 4:7  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

We cannot submit to Jesus if we know nothing of his will. Study his word, eat it and place it into your heart. If you are in Christ Jesus the Holy Spirit will bring these words to remembrance. Remember this; in time of temptation speak out loud the name of Jesus, repeat it and praise him. He will remove the desire to sin.Thank you Jesus, I praise you. You are wonderful, you have kept my soul clean. I am your servant, my Lord, my friend, my King. The word of God spoken will make the devil flee. Our praise will place our will under the power of Jesus.

1 Cor 6:18  Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
1 Cor 6:19  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Too proud for God?

Luke 7:29  And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

All the people and the Publicans, the tax collectors, justified God. They obeyed God and consented to his righteousness being baptized by John to show repentance for sins. The first step to God is repentance, realizing that God is above us and the judge or justifier of our lives we humble ourselves before him. The baptism of John was water baptism unto repentance. This did not remove sins nor was it salvation, but a cleansing and preparation for the one who would follow John. Jesus is the sin remover and the baptizer in the Holy Ghost unto eternal life.

Luke 7:30  But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

Who rejected God's counsel to repent and be baptized? The Pharisees and scribes, those who were responsible to God for the law. The law cannot save. Jesus saves by faith in him and through the grace of God.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Why did they not obey God and be baptized? Perhaps because they were putting on a hypocritical show? Pretending to be righteous? This story illustrates this:

Luke 18:10  Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
Luke 18:11  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Luke 18:12  I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Luke 18:13  And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as hiseyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Luke 18:14  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

They were too proud to obey God and submit to God for baptizing. Contrast this to our Lord Jesus Christ who submitted to be baptized, but had no sin to repent of.

Mat 3:13  Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Mat 3:14  But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Mat 3:15  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Jesus was not trying to look good, but he wanted to do all things good as our example. Are we too proud to obey God? Gary

No room for fellowship?

I see that life-HSM room(s) have been taken over by those who were opposed to the ministry. This has happened to many chat rooms with Christian sounding names. I believe the vision of the room was to provide a safe place for Christians to come at any hour for fellowship. Is there a safe place anymore? Yes, the safe place is a personal walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. In order to keep this place, your heart must stay clean. He is the one to keep it clean, for we must repent and ask him and he cleanses our room for us.

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
But, it is up to us to keep it clean by placing his word within and obeying all that the Spirit brings to mind.

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
John 16:14  He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
John 16:15  All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.

Truth from people on the Internet is not always easy to find. People play games, making up stories for attention. We must assume they are speaking truth and always give them God's word. The word will do it's purpose. This is truth and truth shall overcome lies. The light shall always be brighter in darkness. Keep your light shining, for the devil cannot have his way until we are gone. Then he shall have his season, but his time is short. Fear not the devil who is a spirit but fear and hold tight to God who loves you and who is the greatest Spirit, the Holy Spirit. Be separate from the offensive things of the world and be holy as Jesus is holy.

2 Cor 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2 Cor 6:18  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
2 Cor 7:1  Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

re: Discipleship

Gary:  I read and approve of your dissertation on discipleship in answer to Adrian. Some of the apostles probably had disciples, but I wanted to add that Paul did not.  He is often quoted as having said "But be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ", whereas the word translated follower from the original Greek is "Mimitai", which actually is "Imitator", and the Hebrew rendition is the same, the implication being that we should imitate the way Paul imitates Christ, not follows Him, and not followers of Paul.  Gary, the connotation here may be minimal, and if you think it is and I'm cutting corners too sharply, please disregard it. Re: Prophet in the flesh

It's like U said, it's easy 2 get caught up in struggles & 4get about what God has already done 4 us.... I can look back & C things that once seemed almost impossible 2 overcome, now really not even thought of.... How can something be such a burden of hinderence that it "seems" impossible 2 overcome & now it has been overcome & isn't given much thought?.... 1st of all, 1 overcomes such things b/c of God.... It was the grace, mercy, & power of God that allowed me 2 overcome such a thing.... Now comes the question which no1 wants 2 answer.... How do I get so caught up in 2days struggles that I almost 4get about such an amazing miracle.... Simple, distraction from the enemy.... Allowing Satan 2 decieve & distract.... We must press foward yet never 4get God's Grace & love shown toward us.... Looking back & realizing how far we've come, only b/c of God, we should smile in the face of trials.... Counting it all joy, knowing we have more endurance b/c of such things & surely when we overcome what we currently R facing, we shall have even more endurance.... May God Bless U as U seek HIM 1st.... Adrian

Good thoughts. Another thing I see that is needful is to have good friends in the faith who encourage and minister to you. John still had his disciples although he pointed them to Jesus when he was by the Jordan. This makes me wonder about disciples. Some are very critical of their Pastor or teacher while others are so devoted that when he leaves they do not follow Christ. They were disciples of the man who was pointing them to Jesus, but never followed Jesus on their own. The ideal disciple benefits from the Pastor or teachers, but follows Jesus and worships God the Father through the Holy Spirit. A Pastor or teacher should try to make disciples of Jesus, not to make disciples of themselves. Gary

I want you all to use the resources here and to develop your own ministries. Let me know if you have online ministries or Newsletters, or just share with me and the group what you are doing. We want to encourage the body of Christ and bring many to him. While I am at it, let me introduce to you the several parts of Eaglewings Ministries which began as Grace chatroom, a Bible study room on New Years Eve, 1998.

Eaglewings Journal  This is our newest ministry on AOL. It was designed to share insights and encouragement in a blog type format, which means you can comment on what is there.

Eaglewings Ministries  This is our Home page or index page. This states our ministry purpose and lists all the ministry parts and has some Bible studies. You can reach this sight off of AOL by writing http://www.eaglewingsministries.com/ on your address screen. Our purpose is to find the lost and bring them to Jesus.
