Mark - The Time

The Time

Mark 13:28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
Mark 13:29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
Mark 13:30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

We will see and know. The world will not see.

Mat 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Mat 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
Mat 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Mat 16:1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven.
Mat 16:2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
Mat 16:3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

His word is truth. Beware of false prophecies, for they are false ones. God's word is truth, and it shall come to pass. Every word is eternal truth.

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Do not believe anyone who says they know the day of Christ's return. No one knows, but the Father and now Jesus is with the Father. He will know the day before we will.

Mark 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

Take heed, be aware and watch and pray; you may not know the exact time but you shall know the times as they are coming to pass.

Mark 13:7 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.
Mark 13:8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

Mark - After Tribulation

After Tribulation

Mark 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

This sounds like smoke, such as was in Kuwait during the Gulf war. Burning oil wells darkened the sun and the moon. There will be much fire. What is this tribulation and it's source? It is the judgment of God on the earths evil people. Self destruction, nation against nation and also the wrath of God poured out on Christ rejecting people. Their sins had caused them to worship the evil one. God will but an end to this evil, a cleansing before the return of Jesus Christ, the eternal king, with his saints.

Mark 13:25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

This could be literal stars, comets, and their effect on the earth...groaning in travail.

1 Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
1 Th 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
1 Th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

The powers that are in heaven, the sky above, shall be shaken, or the stars that are angels: Fallen angels gathered up for hell.

Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

They who are on earth shall see the Lord descending in the clouds.

Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Two responses from two kinds of people. The unredeemed, those who took on the mark of the Beast, shall mourn, for they soon shall be cast into hell. The elect, the people of God will rejoice at the Lord's coming. For he will be returning as the word of God said he would.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Acts 1:10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Mark 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

His angels shall gather the elect from the four winds, the four directions of the earth.

Rev 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

From the uttermost part of heaven? Just a thought about this. Maybe men will be in the heavens? Already we have had men on the moon and on space stations. Wherever they may be, alive or dead in Christ, the angels shall gather them together unto Christ Jesus.

Another spiritual thought concerning Jesus returning in the clouds. Perhaps it refers to the cloud of witnesses, the saints in heaven who will return with him?

Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

There is also the cloud of glory, the presence of God in a cloud.

On the mount of transfiguration

Mat 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Before the judgment of the high priest

Mat 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Mat 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

The evidence is in. Without a doubt, Jesus is coming back in the clouds to be with his people. Some will miss out because of unbelief.

Mat 26:65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
Mat 26:66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

God is the final judge. It is down to one question: Who is Jesus to you? He is my Lord and my savior. I look forward to that day when we shall see him, as he returns in the cloud.

Mark - Spiritual discerment

Spiritual discernment

Mark 13:21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:

Mark, by the Holy Spirit placed this earlier in the chapter, he repeats this again, so it is important.

Mark 13:5 And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
Mark 13:6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Satan will raise up false Christ's, false leaders with miracles by sorcery; by calling upon a lying spirit. The elect have God's Spirit, so they should not be deceived. Some will be immature, not studying God's word or following Jesus, the Good Shepherd. These could be deceived along with the world's people.

Mark 13:23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

Take heed, remember and prepare. You need not be taken by surprise.

Luke 21:8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

This no time to be spiritually asleep. Be awake and discerning of what you hear. Don't follow anyone who cannot be tested by the Spirit and the word.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

They are clever deceivers. It may come down to whether or not you feel God's peace in their presence. The Holy Spirit is what brings us together in unity and in peace. If they sound "way out there," leave them.

Mark - Abomination of desolation

Abomination of desolation

Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

The abomination of desolation shall rule as king in Jerusalem. He would be called the man of peace, but after three and a half years he will make war on Israel and God's people and demand to be worshipped.

Dan 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: (seven years) and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Rev 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Rev 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. (three and a half years)
Rev 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
Rev 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Rev 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Rev 13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

Mark 13:15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
Mark 13:16 And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
Mark 13:17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
Mark 13:18 And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.
Mark 13:19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
Mark 13:20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

And then Jesus shall return. All that satan had accomplished would suddenly be destroyed and Jesus shall deliver his people and reign forever with his saints.

Mark - Endure unto the End

Endure unto the End

Mark 13:12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.

This is happening in today's world. The "official" religion of a people, persecuting Christians. The flesh and the devil always come against the spirit of God and His people. A religion that teaches that they should kill the infidels, those who are not of the same belief. They are taught to kill their enemies. This is the great difference, for Jesus Christ taught that we should love our enemies.

Mat 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mat 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Mat 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Mark 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

It is the sword, the word of truth that divides.

Mat 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Mat 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Mat 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
Mat 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
Mat 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Take up your cross and what it stands for. Die to self and live for Jesus through his Spirit. Continue all the way to the end with him. prove your faith, by following him closes, until the end.

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Mark - Speak by the Holy Ghost

Speak by the Holy Ghost

Mark 13:9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.

Rev 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Paul delivered the gospel and suffered many things.

2 Cor 11:24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
2 Cor 11:25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
2 Cor 11:26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
2 Cor 11:27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
2 Cor 11:28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
2 Cor 11:29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?
2 Cor 11:30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.
2 Cor 11:31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.

Mark 13:11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Jesus looking into the future after the Holy Ghost was given to his believers.

Acts 26:27 King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.
Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
Acts 26:29 And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

1 Cor 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

God is with you and shall speak through his servant.

Mark - Beginning of Sorrows

Beginnings of sorrows

Mark 13:7 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.

False Christs, wars and rumours of wars, are no cause to be troubled. These will increase, it will happen, but this does not signal the end yet.

Mark 13:8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

All these are occurring now; nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom: earthquakes, famines and troubles.

Are there more earthquakes than ever before? One source does not see proof of this, stating that there are more readings of earthquakes because of technology, than ever before.

These are the beginnings of sorrows, literally, the beginning of labor pains. They increase in intensity as the time comes due. There shall be other indications in the following verses. I think we just need to stay close to Jesus and not panic as those without hope. For us the end we look forward to, to be with Jesus. Time is running out for the world. They need Jesus too. We must share the gospel with them.

Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Mark - False Christs

False Christs

Mark 13:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
Mark 13:4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

Jesus answers them in a broader time frame; more as to the end times, the time following his ascension and his return. Jesus shall make a new covenant, a better covenant with them. There would be no need of a temple such as they had to house God and do sacrifices. Jesus is the sacrifice and the way to God.

The Samaritan woman heard of the true way of worship.

John 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
John 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

His disciples were expecting Jesus to return soon.

Mark 13:5 And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
Mark 13:6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

I am Christ or they teach a false Christ: Love and light from God, but not of Jesus Christ. A Jesus that is not as the Bible describes him, a Jesus of their making. Beware of familiar words, for they often have a different meaning, a different spirit behind them. Love, light, my truth, tolerance, unity even Jesus. Test all words in the context of the Bibles truth. Ask questions, beginning with: who is Jesus? Has he forgiven your sins? These will reveal the spirit behind the talk...familiar words but an unfamiliar spirit. The spirit of antichrist.

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1 John 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
1 John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Mark - Temple destruction

Temple destruction

Mark 13:1 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!

The temple was made with marble stones, fifty feet by 24 ft by sixteen inches. It covered an area of five hundred yards by 400 yards. The dome was overlaid with gold. The temple was built under Herod's order and was the pride of the Jews.

Mark 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Rome would come against the people of Israel. They were not to destroy the temple, but when it caught on fire, the gold on the dome melted into the cracks of the stones. The armies tore the temple down stone by stone to get at the gold.

God allowed the temple to be destroyed because sacrifices were no longer to be done there. Jesus was the last sacrifice. The stubbornness of the temple leaders was also a reason. They destroyed the temple of God; Jesus. So God allowed their temple building to be destroyed. They wanted law and refused grace, so their covenant of the law, brought destruction because of sin.

Mark - Giving

Giving

Mark 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

Rich people cast in much, but if asked to give all, would they? This was the trouble with riches, they take trust from God and money becomes an idol. Yet in many churches today people come to watch preachers with wealthy garments who speak of material prosperity. The message of wealth now, is a favorite topic. Greedy men seek wealth and devour widows' houses, as Jesus spoke of the Scribes, earlier.

Mark 12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

A mite is about one-eighth of a cent. She wouldn't be going to that new restaurant after the meeting; not unless she was invited by a wealthy one.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Mark 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
Mark 12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

She gave all she had. God sees that as a greater gift. She gave sacrificially. God sees the giving. Jesus sat where he could watch the treasury. He also watches how it us spent. When worship comes he joins in with us if we sing with all our heart. Give all joyfully unto the Lord.

Psa 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Psa 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Mark - Hear Jesus and beware

Hear Jesus and beware

Mark 12:35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?

Jesus answered the silence of those who had questioned him. Hear him now.

Mark 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

A prophetic word by David, through the Holy Spirit. The Bible is a book of God's truth.

Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Mark 12:37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

The common people were not filled with wrong ideas, they wanted to hear the truth. The truth is that the savior would come from God and of the seed of David. He would be greater than king David, because he Is God's Son.

Mark 12:38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
Mark 12:39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:
Mark 12:40 Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

He had the peoples attention, beware of the leaders who say one thing and their hearts and fruit show they are not of God's Spirit. They are the religious rulers, so look at their fruit and see if they are of God. Jesus said that they will be judged a greater judgment. Why? Because they were to guide the people in God's truth.

We are not to blindly follow this type of leaders. Know your Bible and be filled with God's spirit of truth. The Pharisees also were to be watched.

Mat 15:12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
Mat 15:13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
Mat 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Follow Jesus and the word by the Holy Spirit and you will not fall from truth.

Resurrection Power

John 11:24  Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
John 11:25  Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
John 11:26  And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

What does this mean? What should we believe? Isn't the law perfect? What about the Ten Commandments. Always at Easter time they put the Ten Commandments movie on TV. Is the law about Easter?

Mat 5:17  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Mat 5:19  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:20  For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Only Jesus fulfilled the law. The scribes and the Pharisees were guardians of the law and they thought they kept them, but they could not. They could not enter the kingdom of God because they transgressed the law. The law points out our inability to keep the law. To not be perfect, to have sin, meant that we failed to meet God's standard to enter his kingdom. We needed a savior, to save us from our failings.

John 1:11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

God provided grace, unmerited favor to us, because of Jesus.

He knew that he must go to the cross, but he also knew he would rise from the grave.

Mat 16:21  From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Jesus on the cross paid for our sins.

Mat 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

1 Pet 3:18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

He was quickened, brought to life by the spirit: the spirit of Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Ghost. All three were of the power to make eternal life.

The old covenant was God's law, we only failed in keeping them. The law showed us our sins and was a schoolteacher.

Gal 3:24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Gal 3:25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Gal 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29  And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Gal 2:21  I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

People who only teach law hate grace.  Grace is not saying a few words and then living for the devil. Grace is given to a person who believes in Jesus and has a new heart, with the evidence of God's spirit of truth.

It is a born-again experience, we want to serve God and follow Jesus. We keep God's law from the heart.

John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

If we have not received the resurrection of God we are not in grace.

Rom 8:9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:10  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:11  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

The law is of the flesh trying to please God. Salvation grace is by faith in Jesus, a new life.

1 Cor 15:50  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

It is by his spirit that we are changed.

2 Cor 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Gal 6:14  But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Gal 6:15  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Gal 6:16  And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

A new creation in Christ Jesus.

Luke 24:1  Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:2  And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
Luke 24:3  And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
Luke 24:4  And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
Luke 24:5  And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
Luke 24:6  He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Luke 24:7  Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, andthe third day rise again.
Luke 24:8  And they remembered his words,

The resurrection following the shed blood of Jesus was the way for our salvation.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

How important was the resurrection? The resurrection proved that he was the way for us to have eternal life.

1 Cor 15:12  Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
1 Cor 15:13  But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
1 Cor 15:14  And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
1 Cor 15:15  Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
1 Cor 15:16  For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
1 Cor 15:17  And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
1 Cor 15:18  Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
1 Cor 15:19  If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
1 Cor 15:20  But now is Christrisen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
1 Cor 15:21  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
1 Cor 15:22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
1 Cor 15:23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
1 Cor 15:24  Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

1 Cor 15:24  Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
1 Cor 15:25  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
1 Cor 15:26  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

1 John 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1 John 3:3  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Luke 21:25  And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luke 21:26  Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
Luke 21:27  And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Luke 21:28  And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Mark - One more question needed

One more question needed

Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

Now it is a scribe who questions Jesus, following the Saducees. There was a scribe, one who was not necessarily with the others who plotted to have Jesus look as an infidel, so that they might kill him. This scribe knew the scriptures and was asking an important question. It is not wrong to ask questions and to search the scriptures regarding a teacher or the words of a prophet, we are told to compare these to the word of God.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Acts 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Acts 17:12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

2 Tim 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
2 Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Tim 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Mark 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

One God who has sent the Son and the Holy Spirit of God for our salvation and our restitution to himself. This is hard for many Jews to see. Salvation is not by law keeping alone, but by grace through faith in God and his Son, His power and His truth from God's Spirit of truth to make us new spirit creations.

Mark 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
Mark 12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

He was not far from the kingdom of God. The entrance was by faith in Jesus Christ. And no man durst ask him any question. Their hearts were intent on killing him. One more question was needed. Are you the savior sent from God? Yes, the answer is yes. But, the power of darkness kept them silent and outside of the kingdom. Come out of the dark, away from the crowd who seek to destroy Jesus and receive eternal life. It is your decision.

Mark - I Am

I AM

Mark 12:26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

The Saducees wanted to place Jesus where he could not answer their foolish question. They did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. He reminds them of scripture. I love him doing that, for it proves without a doubt that the word written is the truth. This was the account of Moses hearing from God in the burning bush. Was God in the bush?

Exo 3:2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

An angel was in the bush, but, and this is important: Angels only hear from God and are his messengers. (Do not pray to an angel of God, they only hear and obey God.) So it was God speaking in the bush through an angel messenger.

The message: I Am, the name of God, I am the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They were living souls.

Mark 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

One final word. If the angels speak for God, why not men who hear from the Holy Spirit? The prophets, Moses and Holy men of God, also heard from God and wrote his message in the Bible. The Bible is God breathed, the inspired word of God. It is the living word from our Living God and our Living savior.

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

The I am again. Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Jesus is God the Son. I believe.

Mark - Marriage in heaven

Heavenly marriage

Mark 12:18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

The Sadducees were the unbelieving Jewish leaders of the counsel. They did not believe in the Spiritual world; angels, heaven or hell. These were the liberals of Israel's leaders, they did not believe in the resurrection They were sad - u - see.The Pharisees believed in the resurrection and an after life. Unbelieving Saducees, now come against Jesus, the Living Word, the way the truth and the life, to try to confuse him and to make him look foolish. They were the fools with foolish questions.

Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Titus 3:10 A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject;
Titus 3:11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

Mark 12:19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
Mark 12:20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
Mark 12:21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
Mark 12:22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.
Mark 12:23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

This was a foolish question, from unbelief.

The Sadducees believed that when the body died, the soul died. The Bible not only tells us that the soul lives on when the body dies, but that the soul will be given a new body, a body fit for eternity - a resurrection body. (Guzik)

Mark 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

They knew not God nor the scriptures. Heaven will not be just a continuation of life on earth at it's best. Muslim extremists see heaven as a place of lust with seventy - two virgins waiting for them. Jesus will show themtruth on this matter.

Mark 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

Angels in heaven are spiritual creatures, there is no lust and no marriage. There is one marriage, but not of two people. Jesus shall receive his bride, which is all of the believers called the church. It is a spiritual union with our Lord, he loves us as a close intimate relationship, blending soul and spirit. He will be the best provider, we will lack nothing, for all he has he will share with us.

Rev 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
Rev 21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Rev 22:4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
Rev 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Peter's denial of Jesus and grace for grace

Peter lost faith. Jesus spoke often of the importance of faith...faith in God and in HIM, not self. When Jesus arose and returned to the Father he gave Peter and us what we needed to follow and obey him: The Holy Spirit and GRACE. Grace to receive him and Grace to follow and obey him, Those who only speak the law, have no grace and are unfamiliar with God's Spirit. Law only condemns, including the one who insists that law is all there is. The resurrection and the Holy Spirit within, changes us into Spiritual children of God by Grace we are saved...unto good works: more grace.  Grace for grace.

John 1:16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

Mark - Which law do we serve?

Which law do we serve?

Mark 12:13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

They sent, the chief priests sent certain Pharisees, experts at the law and also liberal Herodians. Two opposites, the Pharisees supposedly teachers of God's law and the Herodians, the liberal politicians, sympathetic to Roman rule. Opposites joining together to attack Jesus with words, to try to cause him to break the law of God or the law of Rome. A two pronged attack.

Mark 12:14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

They begin by words of flattery, to gain a closer position of trust. Subtle they are, but what is their true intent? Jesus knew their hearts, he was not fooled by them.

Luke 12:1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Luke 12:2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

...we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

After the flattering praise, they come up with the question to trick him.

Mark 12:15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

Shall we give tribute to Caesar? If he said no, one would be offended. For one was of God's law, the other of Roman laws. If he said yes, the Jews hated the tribute money and would not like that answer. Bring a Roman coin to him.

Mark 12:16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.
Mark 12:17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

They marveled and so do we at his wisdom. We owe to God, His things and to the government, their things. We obey laws, unless they are laws prohibiting the free worship of God. Even so, no man can stop the heart from worshipping God and doing good.

The greatest struggle of obeying God is in the mind.

Rom 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Obey that which is good and lawful from your heart.

The Son is Sent

The Son is Sent

Mark 12:6 Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

Reverence: entrepo, to put self to shame, to regard, to respect.

The Father will send his only begotten son, surely they will be humbled in his presence and respect him?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Mark 12:7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.

They were thinking as natural evil men, if they could kill the son, then they will be in charge of all the vineyard, of all the religious things: gold, honor, power. But they did not see in the spiritual. The true riches are spiritual, the true heirs of God are those who honor and obey Jesus, the Son. What would these wicked religious men teach? They would make disciples after themselves, hunger for power, lusts and the worlds treasures. Though outwardly they would appear to keep the law.

Mark 12:8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

Jesus was taken outside of Jerusalem and killed.

John 19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
John 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
John 19:18 Where they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

Mark 12:9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

They rejected their savior. The temple would be completely destroyed by the Romans. Many of their men would be crucified and the kingdom of God would be open to the Gentiles through faith in Jesus, the promised one of Israel.

Mark 12:10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
Mark 12:11 This was the Lord's doing, andit is marvellous in our eyes?

Psa 118:22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
Psa 118:23 This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.

Another fulfillment of prophesy. Did God make them reject Jesus? No, but seeing all things he knew this would happen. We are responsible for our sins, even if God knows, he has given us the word and His Son to bring us to himself. The choice is ours to make. Satan can always find willing servants through lust for wealth, power and pleasure. When the Father speaks, we will serve the Lord.

Mark 12:12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

They knew this was about them, but still they sought their own will and that of the devil. Do we pay attention when Jesus speaks to us? Or do we go our own way?

Mark - Keepers of the vineyard

Keepers of the Vineyard

Mark 12:1 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.

Parables usually were for those who could not see spiritual truth; a story understood on two levels. Who was Jesus speaking too? The Chief priests, elders, Scribes and Pharisees, all who were responsible to God to bring his truth to a lost world. The center of their activity was the Temple in Jerusalem. This is where they were speaking from.

God planted a vineyard, a place of fruit in Jerusalem. He placed a hedge around it. There was a wall around Jerusalem, but most importantly there was a spiritual hedge of protection supplied by God. Listen America, the protective hedge protects God's people. The wall is to protect those who serve him. If you wish to remove God from your public life, he will remove the hedge of protection. All manner of evil may come in, illegal aliens and terrorists, storms and earthquakes, disease and pestilence. These come to a nation that has lost it's protective hedge from God.

There was a place for the grapes to be placed, the winefat, grapes for pressing. There was to be fruit in the temple, spiritual fruit and converts; people pressing in to receive of God's word of truth. The Jews were not open to other people coming into their faith. The courtyards of the Gentiles were places of moneychangers and thievery.

He built a tower, a temple, a place where the watchman looked out, a place to see danger and warn the people and a place to hear from God. Who will be the lookout? Who will guard the vineyard? Who will warn the people? Usually God would send a prophet to give his message if he has not heard from the stewards. The vineyard, the temple was given to certain keepers to care for it for the ruler, who was in a far country; God was in heaven.

Mark 12:2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

The LORD's servant was his spokesman, a prophet, inquiring of the fruit harvest. He would speak to their hearts from the master and ask them to give an account of their labors; the fruit of the vineyard.

Mark 12:3 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.

Instead of honoring him and showing hospitality, giving him the increase from the fruit, they treated him as an intruder. They caught him, beat him, and would not hear him sending him away without any gain from their harvest to show the Master.

Mark 12:4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
Mark 12:5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.

It appeared that instead of just stewards, that theives and murderers were in charge of the vineyard. They would not heed the prophets of God, but destroyed them.

Mat 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Mat 23:30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
Mat 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Mat 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

Next he would send his son, his very likeness. In whom he is well pleased, listen to him.

Mark - What authority?

What authority?

Mark 11:27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,

All the highest authority of the religious system came to him, but not seeing Jesus as their Lord. In the church, Jesus is the head and the Lord of all.

Mark 11:28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?

By the authority of God His Father he did all things.

John 15:23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
John 15:24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

Mark 11:29 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
Mark 11:30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.
Mark 11:31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?
Mark 11:32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
Mark 11:33 And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

They were outwitted and their little trap did not work. They were not of God's Spirit but full of self righteous pride.

Mat 23:28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Luke 11:32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

Titus - Final thoughts

Final thoughts

Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

A faithful saying:

Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Faithful to maintain good works:

1 Tim 5:24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
1 Tim 5:25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

1 Tim 4:7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
1 Tim 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

No honest question is foolish. Foolishness is of a foolish heart seeking with guile to mock the word of truth or to promote their own ideas. Jesus was given foolish question, to trick him so that he might be accused by the religious leaders. Religious people often are proud and argumentative.

1 Tim 1:4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Avoid contentions, and strivings about the law, they are unprofitable and vain.

We see these in our Christian Internet chats, proud men striving over the law and foolish things. It is of the flesh.

1 Cor 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Contending for the faith, is of God's Spirit. We are to build and edify one another in a meek and gentle spirit.

Rom 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

2 Cor 12:18 I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?
2 Cor 12:19 Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
2 Cor 12:20 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

Titus 3:10 A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject;

A heretic: a "heretical person" is one who follows his own self-willed "questions," and who is to be avoided. Heresies thus came to signify self-chosen doctrines not emanating from God.

My truth, your truth, but what of God's truth in the Bible?

Some come to speak heresies and do not respect order or established authority. Warn them once, twice and the third time reject them, remove them so they do not lead the weak in their ungodly way.

2 Pet 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 Pet 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2 Pet 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Titus 3:11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

Subverting: overthrowing, as in an invading army plundering and looting, but of the soul, they steal truth and give you their message as satan has plundered the truth from them. They are speaking their own condemnation, do not follow them.

One warning here: Some find things they do not agree with in other ministers. Some make websites listing every major Christian minister as "heretics." This is mostly gossip, seeking to find fault with another, Be sure to not accuse one another over minor differences. A heretic is not speaking the truth of God, perhaps in part, but mixed with a lie or speaking by another spirit subverting the truth. We all may not see things the exact same way. Let God's Spirit and his word be the discerning way to know truth and error.

Titus 3:12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.
Titus 3:13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.
Titus 3:14 And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

Final greetings to friends and a word about all of us maintaining good works and being fruitful. We preach to ourselves too.

1 Cor 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Titus 3:15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.

Love and grace, the evidence of a Christian life, Amen

Mark - Release the Power

Release the power of God

Mark 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

The first step in prayer, is to have faith in God.

Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

We need His power to move the daily mountains and obstacles. This is Holy Spirit power, which had not yet come to stay with them. This power comes through Jesus. By prayer, God intercedes for us. We pray according to his will and according to his word. That is the way to pray.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Belief is the first step to faith, they are similar words.

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

One thing will block your prayers and maybe keep you from going further in God's Spirit.

Mark 11:25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
Mark 11:26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Search your heart and see if there is someone you can't forgive. They may not be worthy, having sinned greatly against you. But, for your eternal life and prayer life, we must forgive them. God will forgive you. Your forgiveness will bring God to the one who is undeserving of forgiveness. They will have a chance to repent and receive Jesus, and if not they will perish in their sins. But? You will not perish with them. As children of God we are to seek to save the lost. Unforgiveness means we still are under bondage to someone's sin.

1 Sam 2:9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
1 Sam 2:10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

They will mock Jesus and they will mock you. He forgave offenses, so must we.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Thieves and killers

Thieves and killers in God's House

Mark 11:15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

The money changers exchanged foreign currency to the currency of the temple and they cheated, charging more than what was fair. Each male had to pay a temple tax in the currency of the temple. The sacrificial animals sold at the court of the Gentiles were the only accepted sacrifices. With so much money handling and corruption, this was all the Gentiles could see of the temple, for this was the only place they could come to worship.

I have seen this as well in our country, where those who have felt that they could not openly enter a church would watch a TV preacher, but most of the message was about getting their money. What does Jesus think of this? He casts them out and overturned the tables of the money changers.

Mark 11:16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
Mark 11:17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

They had defiled the temple with their shameful practices. The temple was to be a house of prayers, but he said they had made it a den of thieves, a place where robbers hide out.

Mark 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

They feared Jesus and were jealous of him and his popularity. They plotted to destroy him. This was not the way of godly people of faith, but of the devil who seeks to kill, steal and destroy. Thieves and killers had taken their places in the temple

Mark 11:19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.
Mark 11:20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
Mark 11:21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.

The fig tree that Jesus spoke against had withered away. We must beware whowe speak against. We have power to curse or to bless.

James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Jesus came to save, not to curse you. He was only upset with those that were appointed to bring God's word to you, who were thieves and killers and destroyers of his holy word.

Mark - Fruit Inspector

Fruit Inspector

Mark 11:11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

Jesus enters the temple, passing through the courtyard of the Gentiles, where money changers were stealing and animals were being sold for sacrifice. He sees this. He enters the temple, to see a magnificent building, but the keepers had no fruit, they were not speaking God's message and reaching the world. Perhaps he caught a glimpse of the scribes and Pharisees and saw the fear and envy in their hearts. They were plotting to kill Jesus. Satan was in the temple. Religion had replaced the word and Spirit of God. He left with his disciples to Bethany, he had seen enough.

Mark 11:12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
Mark 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

Perhaps the fig tree, was a symbol of the temple, or those who were in authority. These looked magnificent, as the tree in full bloom, but with no fruit. The time of the figs was not yet. Usually the figs start early to grow and when the leaves are grown, so are the figs, but there was no fruit on this tree.

Mark 11:14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

Jesus pronounced a curse on the tree. He was not usually angry except with those religious leaders, the scribes and Pharisees, who did not do as they were supposed to do. They were as the tree, hypocrites, giving false hope and no fruit.

Mat 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
Mat 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Mat 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Are we doing as God wants? Are we obeying his word and giving others truth?

Hosanna

Hosanna

Mark 11:7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.

This was their sacrifice for him. They gave their best clothing for the master, as a saddle.

Mark 11:8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strowed them in the way.

They made a royal path with their garments and palm leaves.

Mark 11:9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:

At last Jesus receives praise and adoration, even if for a short time.

Mark 11:10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

They thought Jesus was coming to set up his Father's kingdom in Jerusalem. Hosanna means: save, I pray thee. Soon they would be shouting: crucify him, crucify him. For this was the purpose for which he came. By his shed blood many would be saved from death and hell.

Mark - Bring the colt

Bring the Colt

Mark 11:1 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,

All male Jews were required to go to Jerusalem annually for the Passover service. This would be the final time Jesus would go, his death and resurrection were near.

Mark 11:2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

The traditions of the Jews was that the Messiah would come on a mighty horse as a conqueror or on a colt in peace. A colt was symbolic of peace to them. When he returns from glory he will come on a white horse.

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
Rev 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
Rev 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Mark 11:3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.

Because of the authority of God's son, the man would do as asked.

Mark 11:4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.

A place where two ways met, like a cross. Those of the world going one way meet the savior at the cross and are saved. They go his way to heaven.

Mark 11:5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?
Mark 11:6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.

They let the colt go. The colt had never been sat upon. Normally it would buck the rider and protest, but this was God the Son who had dominion over all creation. The colt would peacefully submit. At the name of Jesus we all should submit, for he is our peace and our rest. Yet, God has given us a free will to respond to him in faith or to turn away. In the final days all will say that Jesus is Lord.

Phil 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Phil 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
